The Mayor’s Youth Employment and Education Program (MYEEP) provides subsidized employment opportunities to approximately 1,400 high school aged youth each year. The goal of the program is to support the positive development of youth in San Francisco by engaging them in meaningful employment, career, leadership, and community involvement opportunities. MYEEP is a collaboration of 12 community-based organizations, which ensures citywide inclusion in the program, as well as access to a diverse array of services.
MYEEP collaborative agencies provide employment programming, which includes work experience, job readiness training, transition planning, educational support, and community involvement opportunities, to youth with barriers to employment.
The New Directions Employment Program (NDEP), a MYEEP initiative, was established in June 2006 by the Department of Children, Youth, & Their Families (DCYF) and the Juvenile Probation Department (JPD). NDEP is a year-round employment and training program that provides youth involved in the Juvenile Justice system with opportunities for work-based learning, life skills, academic support and educational workshops focused on positive youth development.
Youth identified by JPD will submit their applications to the Focus Vocational Program located at the Youth Guidance Center and be assessed by the Occupational Therapy Training Program (OTTP) for their appropriateness for the initiative. Youth who have completed the OTTP assessment will be referred to either the Mayor’s Youth Employment & Education Program (MYEEP) or Workreation, a citywide work experience program operated by the Recreation and Park Department.
